Gröde

The holm Gröde (Danish Grode, friesian di Grööe, also: Gröde - Appelland ) is one of the ten holms in North Friesland in the National Park Schleswig -Holstein Wadden Sea. It consists of the former no longer inhabited holm Appelland (Danish: Abel country and North Frisian Åpellöön or Aapellöön ) in the north and the inhabited holm Gröde in the south, who were married in 1900 in coastal protection measures with each other.

The municipality is Gröde with nine inhabitants one of the smallest independent municipalities in Germany. To 2.52 km ² large municipality also includes the not permanently inhabited holm Habel.

Geography

Gröde is with a size of 277 hectares - including some water areas - the third largest holm. It is almost entirely surrounded by a stone edge and is thus protected during storm tides before loss of land. Nevertheless, the holm Gröde is flooded on average twenty to thirty times a year in land under up to the mounds. Four houses are on the Knudtswarft, and a house with the church, the school and the teacher's apartment is on the Kirchwarft, which is the highest elevation on the holm with 4.3 m above mean sea level. School and teacher's house are empty since 2012.

Both mounds are surrounded by ring dikes, so that they can withstand the storm surges. All houses have the 1st floor of a shelter, standing on four concrete piers, which are founded about four feet in Warftboden. On the Knudtswarft located between the buildings a Fething. On the Kirchwarft the cemetery is located next to the church and school building. The end of the 19th century destroyed New Peterswarft on the way to the boat is now used as a storage for building materials.

History

In ancient times belonged Gröde as well as his neighbor holms Appelland and Habel to Uthlanden. The holms were separated by storm surges from the mainland and had to complain subsequently by further flooding and loss of land ocean currents. In the Burchardiflut in 1634 drowned on the three holms a human. The Church of St Margaret was built in 1779. It is probably the seventh church on this site. It contains an altar of 1592nd Before the February flood of 1825 gave it to the then three independent holms Gröde, Appelland and Habel 23 houses, eight of which were destroyed. One of three mounds on Gröde was also destroyed. In 1825, there were 90 residents on holm Gröde. By the year 1874, this number was halved. Policy

With less than 70 inhabitants, the municipality has to § 54 of the Schleswig -Holstein Municipal Code no community representation, but a community meeting, attended by all enfranchised citizens.

The community Gröde is the smallest constituency in Germany. The groeder election results were regularly made shortly after the polls closed as a first stationary result is known. At the general election in 2013, however, all the inhabitants decided first to vote by post.

Economy and infrastructure

The inhabitants derive their income from the rental of apartments from agricultural and sideline businesses, the existing land is farmed together in a Allmendewirtschaft. Since 1976, the holm Gröde is connected to a power and water connections to the mainland. There is a telephone line. The houses are heated with electricity.

Traffic

The Rungholt and the Eagles run from the mainland port Schlüttsiel after Gröde. A regular schedule does not exist. From the port Strucklahnungshörn on North beach occasionally runs the excursion boat Adler V; Moreover, there is a small marina. Traffic there is not Gröde.

Flora and Fauna

In summer flowers in the meadows of the holm beach lilac. Gröde is a station for migratory birds on their way from southern England and south-western Europe to Siberia. For example, rest 10,000 to 15,000 Brent Geese annually on the holm.
