Overview
A total of 80.1 million vehicles worldwide in 2011 were produced ( 2010 = 77.6 million ), according to the World Automobile Association OICA. The vehicle production increased over the previous year by 3.2 percent. The most important producing countries were China ( 18.4 million ), the USA ( 8.7 million ), Japan ( 8.4 million ), Germany ( 6.3 million ) and South Korea ( 4.7 million ). The five States had in 2011 a share of 58.0 percent of global production ( 2010 = 59.1 percent). Other major producers in Europe were Spain, France and Great Britain.
The world's largest automotive group was 2010 Toyota produced 8.6 million vehicles, followed by General Motors ( 8.5 million ), Volkswagen AG ( 7.3 million ), Ford Motor Company (5.0 million), Nissan (4, 0 million ). The five companies had a combined share of 43.0 per cent of global production. Will Renault -Nissan counted as a business, then this group amounted to 6.7 million vehicles in fourth place.
The world's largest exporters of automobiles in 2011 were France ( 4.9 million ), Germany ( 4.8 million ), Japan ( 4.5 million ), South Korea ( 3.2 million ) and Mexico ( 2.3 million ). Most car registrations in 2011 were China ( 18.5 million ), the USA ( 13 million ), Japan ( 4.2 million ), Brazil ( 3.6 million ) and Germany ( 3.5 million ).
In many industrialized countries, as in the U.S., Japan, Germany and South Korea, the automotive industry one of the most important industries dar. During the year 2008, the financial crisis had increasing impact on the real economy. Effects were seen around the world, first in the U.S., then in Western Europe and Japan, and since the autumn of 2008. Most automobile manufacturers in industrialized countries announced in late October / early November to significant production cuts in order to respond to a slump in sales in the tens of magnitude. Total 2009 world's 61.7 million vehicles were produced ( 2008 = 70.5 million ), according to the World Automobile Association OICA. Vehicle production fell year on year by 13.7 percent. - Reference on the information about Germany: The data of the RCIA are identical to the data of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA ), but have different values for the total number of new registrations. The OICA considered against the KBA no motorcycles ( 2013: 138 632 ) and only the tractor unit are in an international comparison in the number of tractors considered. Example 2013: The new registration figures show 77 640 tractors, including 30 069 tractors. The differential amount of 47 571 for other tractors (eg agricultural and forestry tractors ) are not considered here. Therefore, there is an example for the year 2013 in the total amount of different values : 3,443,921 ( KBA specification) and 3,257,718 ( OICA stated) = difference 186 203 vehicles, of which 138 632 motorcycles and 47 571 other tractors. But taking into account the other motor vehicles (2013: 15,131 ). This is among other things to the fire and police vehicles, civil defense vehicles.

Europe
Car prices in the European Union
The European Commission drafted 1992-2007 respectively a semi-annual report on car prices ( inclusive and exclusive of taxes ) in the individual Member States. Since May 2007 annual reports are published. This initiative was launched after there were numerous complaints from consumers about different prices in the Member States. The car prices relate to the recommended prices of vehicle manufacturers around 80 car models from 27 car brands.

The harmonization of vehicle papers vehicles with special purpose ( caravans, ambulances, etc.) are assigned to the passenger cars from 1 January 2006. This can affect the change values (compared to the previous year).
With the introduction of the Vehicle Registration Regulation ( FZV ) statistical method was modified on 1 March 2007. The Federal Motor Vehicle Office recorded since only registered vehicles without temporary closures / shut ratios. Previously these were from 1972 included in the vehicle fleet with. In order to present a meaningful time series, also the other vintages from 2000 have been retroactively converted to the new collection method.
Car ownership by gender of the holder
In an evaluation of the Federal Motor Vehicle Office on 14.38 million women in the Central Vehicle Register of KBA were of the 43,431,124 passenger cars ( cars) on 1 January 2013 registered as the owner of a car. This corresponds to around 33.1 percent. In the early 1980s, the proportion of female holders only around 18.5 percent.

The evaluations of the Federal Motor Vehicle Office KBA based on all according to the Vehicle Registration Regulation ( FZV ) in Germany for the first time authorized or registered vessels to which a mark has been assigned. Vehicles that were already registered at home or abroad are not included in the statistics.

In 2013 10.044.785 passenger cars were traded and registered. Of these, 7,092,354 cars ( 70.61 %) and 2,952,431 new cars ( 29.4 %).
Data to new car buyers ( individuals)
After the August 25, 2013 announced by Ferdinand Dudenhöffer study of the CAR- Center Automotive Research at the University of Duisburg -Essen, the average age of a new car buyer was 52.4 years in Germany. The Institute values while new registrations to individuals from early January to the end of July 2013. In 1995, the average age was still 46.1 years. The main reasons for this, the Institute sees the demographic change in Germany, the increasing value of cars as a status symbol among young people in the cities and lack of aesthetics of the new car for younger buyers.
