Neuenkirchen, Rügen

New churches is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). The community is managed by the Office West Rügen based in the community Samtens.

Geography

New churches located about twenty kilometers north-west of Bergen auf Rügen. It is located on two peninsulas Liddow and Lebbin between Lebbiner Bodden, Tetzitzer Lake and the Great Jasmund.

History

New churches was first mentioned in 1318 as " Nygenkerke ".

The place was until 1326 part of the Principality of Rügen and then the Duchy of Pomerania. With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 Rügen was and thus the area of new churches a part of Swedish Pomerania. In 1815 New churches came as part of Neuvorpommern the Prussian province of Pomerania.

Since 1818 New churches belonged to the circle or district Rügen. Only in the years 1952 to 1955 it was the county mountains belong. The village belonged until 1990 to Rügen county in the district of Rostock and in the same year part of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The 1990 re- designated as the Rügen was 2011 in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen.

In Grubnow is the so-called high Hilgor, a mountain with a beautiful panoramic view. To the mountain there is the following story:

High Hilgor: hil = Hillig ( German. ), holy; gor = mountain ( Slavic ) The Germans created to guidance, through Feuerlohen ( sacred fire ) were visualized and created by a formal line system for a signal and communications. This results in a combination of Wall and refuges with Germanic sanctuaries. These lines are oriented due east and north. Both directions played a major role in the religious cult of the Germans. Such a sacred location should also be the high Hilgor.

With 43.8 m highest point in a chain of hills; forested. 1992/93 here is a 15.5 m high wooden tower was built to allow unobstructed views of the entire island. Even in Grümbkes travelogues 1805, the outstanding views has been described.

Transport links

After New churches performs about nine kilometer road which branches off from the main road 30 between Gingst and Trent in Kluiser district Silenz. The distance to the city of Bergen on Rügen is twenty kilometers. In Bergen is also the nearest railway station.
