Geographical location

Schimberg is located in the west of the ridge Obereichsfeld Westerwald in Eichsfeld Hainich Werra. In the district of Ershausen coming from the northwest Krombach opens into the Rosoppe, a northern tributary of Frieda.

History

1071 Martin Field, 1169 Ershausen, 1318 armor as " Rystinen " and Wilbich was first mentioned in 1479 as Misserode " Mißenrode " and 1522 Lehna documented. The places were until the secularization in 1802 to Electoral Mainz. 1802-1807 they were Prussian and then came to the Kingdom of Westphalia. 1815 to 1945 they were part of the Prussian province of Saxony. The St. John pen in Ershausen was founded in 1884 as a foundation.

In the era of National Socialism 93 children and adolescents were included accommodated to the 200 in St. John's pen Ershausen mentally disabled people deported in 1939 as part of the "euthanasia" killing program.

On April 8, 1945, the locations of U.S. Army were occupied. In Ershausen 6 inhabitants died from artillery fire, there came also severe damage to buildings. These contributed two blowing up bridges, as also in Martin Field. Artillery shelling was also Wilbich. Then, the locations were "busy problems ". Then came the beginning of July 1945 to the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ ) and were from 1949 part of East Germany. From 1961 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 they were affected by the closure of the nearby German border. Since 1990, the places were part of the re-established state of Thuringia. The formation of the church today Schimberg was on 30 July 1997 by the merger of the formerly independent communities Ershausen ( with several incorporated on 1 January 1957 and places Misserode Lehna ) and Martin box, armor and Wilbich.
