Popran-Nationalpark

The Popran National Park is a national park in the eastern part of the Australian state of New South Wales, 56 kilometers north of Sydney. The park is located north of the lower reaches of the Hawkesbury River and consists of five non-contiguous areas.

Location

The largest part is located north of the small town of Lower Mangrove Mangrove Creek and between Popran Creek. Smaller parts are in the north further up the Popran Creek at Central Mangrove, in the south at the Hawkesbury River to the west in the small town of Mangrove Creek and to the east at Calga on the Pacific Highway. The Dharug National Park borders the west, the Brisbane Water National Park to the east and the Marra Marra National Park in the south.

Geology

Most of the park consists of a sandstone plateau, in which the streams, such as the Mangrove Creek, the Popran Creek and Iron Creek Bank have dug.

History

The Aboriginesstämme the Dharug and Ku-ring -gai lived for 11,000 years in the area of ​​today's national parks. Even today, remnants of this culture in many places can be visited in the park.

From the earliest days of European settlement until about 1980 timber was harvested in the territory of today's park. There were also some farms on land that was left to the released prisoners by the government. Mid 20th century, but departed the last settlers, as the cost of transporting goods were always higher to customers in Sydney.

On November 30, 1994, the area was declared a National Park.

Flora and Fauna

In Popran National Park 450 different plant species have been recorded, which are found in 19 different habitats, including mangrove swamps to the watercourses, eucalyptus forests and Temperate Rainforest.

Endangered species in the park are various species of owls ( Powerful Owl, Masked Owl ), Schwarzdommel, giant quoll, brush tail Beutler, various Gleitbeutlerarten ( Yellow-bellied Glider, Squirrel Glider ), a species of toad ( Red-crowned Toadlet ) and various species of frogs ( Green Bell Frog, Golden Bell Frog).
