Gammelby is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

Gammelby is located just northwest of Eckenförde on the main road 76 to Schleswig. The farms Birkensee, Flint Mountain, Johannisberg, Puck wood, Ravens mountain and the goods Rögen and Eichtal belong to the municipality.

History

Gammelby was first mentioned in 1339. The place name comes from the Danish and simply means old village. In the 16th century two villages are attested: Grote Gammelby and Liitke Gammelby; these came in 1617 initially to Gutsbezirk Saxtorf, later to Gutsbezirk Rögen. The community Gammelby was then created in 1876.

Incorporations

In 1928, the former Gutsbezirk Rögen Gammelby has been added.

Spin-offs

On January 1, 1974, the community part Grass Wood with at that time more than 70 residents of the city Eckernförde was ceded. Grass Wood was to 1637 Eckernförder area, then a part of the goods Saxtorf.
