Göhren, Rügen

The Göhren is a town on the peninsula in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen Moenchgut on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). It is administered by the Office Moenchgut -Granitz based in Baabe.

Geography

The community Göhren includes the easternmost point of Rügen: Cape NordPerd. It separates the northern from the southern beach. The north beach is the actual beach with promenade.

Between the Göhrener pier and the NordPerd lies with the Buskam the largest erratic boulder found so far in Germany.

History

The former fishing village and pilotage Göhren ( Slavic "mountain" ) was first mentioned in 1165.

The place was until 1326 part of the Principality of Rügen and then the Duchy of Pomerania.

With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 became Rügen and thus also the place Göhren Swedish Pomerania. In 1815 the church and Pomerania came to the Prussian province of Pomerania.

Göhren developed in the 19th century into a major holiday resort and leads a seaside resort since 1878. 1885 the village had 245 inhabitants. 1887, the imperial court lady Adeline Countess of mold man in Göhren the world's first sailors' home. The building of the narrow gauge railway Orlando Furioso increased from 1899 tourism development. The small train runs today in regular service and connects Göhren with the seaside resorts of Sellin, Sellin and Binz. It ends in Putbuser district Lauterbach. In GDR times, the holiday capacities were expanded. 1962/64 created the so-called holiday villages with simple wooden accommodation. 1965 was created in the dune forest towards Baabe in close proximity to the Baltic Sea, a camp which is now run by the Rainbow AG. In the early 1970s had Göhren 1790 inhabitants and 4400 guest beds that were managed primarily by fdgb holiday service. On the promenade stood until the turn of a memorial stone, which was to commemorate the visit of the first president of the GDR, Wilhelm Pieck, in Göhren. The stone is now on display on the grounds of the museum courtyard.

Since 1818 Göhren belonged to the circle or district Rügen. Only in the years 1952 to 1955 it was the county Putbus belonging. The village belonged until 1990 to Rügen county in the district of Rostock and in the same year part of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The 1990 re- designated as the Rügen was 2011 in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen.

  • The pier was rebuilt Göhren again in the 1990s. Its length is 270 meters.
  • The hill grave bacon bush is next to the Göhrener church and dates from the Bronze Age.
  • The Mönchguter four museums are under monumental protection of investments which constitute this open-air museum. There is a local history museum, the boat will Luise, the museum courtyard and a thatched fisherman's house, Rookhuus.
  • The Dragon House was the last life and the workplace of the " poet of the Baltic Sea" and the time was significant playwright Max Dreyer.
  • Buskam: The largest boulder in Germany, it is located about 300 meters off the coast east of Göhren.
  • Memorial for the victims of the "Action Rose" in 1953 on the Baltic Sea Coast ( Hotel starfish, Post Road 10)
  • The village church Göhren originates from the 20th century (1929 /30).
  • The ground monument Hesse camp on the road to Lobbe goes back to a military camp of 1812.

  • The beaches have a total length of 5 km, with smooth transition of the beaches. North beach: Up to 30 m wide and white, fine sand beach with 270 m long pier
  • South Beach: Rocky and narrower beach.

Economy and infrastructure

The community Göhren is mainly dominated by tourism. Besides hotels and pensions, which are in the style of resort architecture for the most part, there are Goehren a campsite. On the south beach of Göhren is a rehabilitation clinic of the pension funds Germany.

Traffic

Göhren is 22/ 96 B (up mountains ) and from there via the B196 accessible by car via the European route. The nearest mainline station with IC maintenance is in Binz. From there, there is a rail link with the narrow gauge railway Orlando Furioso.
