Grauel

Grauel is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. Old Jahn situated in the municipality.

Geography and transport

Grauel located about 20 km west of Neumünster and 25 km south of Rendsburg in Akrug Nature Park. Directly at Grauel the main road 77 from Rendsburg to Itzehoe and the federal highway 430 from Neumünster towards Schenefeld intersect.

History

Grauel was mentioned in a document in 1349 first in Itzehoer monastery archives as " Growel ".

On the origin of the place name, there are two variants. Firstly, the name is derived from the Low German Groof ( ditch ). Secondly, it is recorded that in ancient times where Grauel is today, have settled Köhler. If you saw the glow in the dark pile, the people said, "There is gruelich ".

In 1930 the land was reclaimed, but have stone axes found on Graueler area and other items back to an earlier settlement.

1959 silver treasure was found in a house. In this house, the chimney should be renewed and speech met with the masons to about 3.3 kilograms of silver coins. The origin is unclear. It is believed that a poor nurse has hidden the coins in the war and then died without putting someone from the hideout in knowledge. Some of the coins are issued in the High Westedter local museum.
