The Kia Visto first generation was produced since the fall of 1997 and sold in early 1998 as the Hyundai Atos in Germany. It was a practical and relatively large minivan version, in which the Opel Agila has largely ajar.

The model, which was marketed from the summer of 1999 in Europe as Hyundai Atos Prime, has a sloping rear hatch and is not as spacious as the original Atos ( minivan ). These were a modified Kia Vista I. The sale of Atos ( 23,000 units sold to Atos and Atos Prime in Germany within four years ) in Europe was discontinued in the spring of 2002, since this year his true successor, the Hyundai Getz, was introduced to the European market.

Since the latter but increased strongly in all external dimensions had (length 3.82 m, equivalent to an increase of 25 cm) and thus spoke to a different clientele, many asked interested parties for a smaller, positioned below the Getz small car. The Atos III differs both technically and optically only slightly from the second generation. In particular, the revised front and rear light units with clear glass look point to the successor. That it is consequently more concerned about a facelift, in which a new engine (1.0 liters with 1.1 liters replaced) found its way, is due to the fact that Hyundai wanted to meet the demand described above as inexpensively as possible.

The Hyundai Atos now had in the entry-level version with the known from the Picanto 's sister brand Kia Motors and from model year 2006 46 kW ( 63 HP ) (previously 43 kW (59 PS)) strong 1.1 -liter four- cylinder petrol engine with 12 valves ( three per cylinder ) with a significantly more modern compared to the previous engine, on ABS with electronic brake force distribution, driver airbag, power steering, immobilizer and central locking. In addition, the Comfort version includes a front passenger airbag, front electric windows, speakers in the parcel shelf, and color-keyed exterior mirrors and door handles. ESP is available at any time. The trunk of the Atos has a volume of 263 l The specified average or normal consumption is 5.5 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 131 g / km. Due to its special shape and the high seating position of the Hyundai Atos is sometimes referred to as micro - van.

In early 2008 the production of the Atos was adjusted in favor of the new i10. The Kia Visto, however, continue to be offered in South Korea and other Asian markets.

Comments

Despite the rather poor safety equipment, which only a driver's airbag and ABS included in the base, the Hyundai Atos first generation achieved the prestigious Euro NCAP crash test for that time - the test was carried out in 2000 - and for the class of vehicle respectable three of five stars in vehicle occupant protection. Competing models, which were developed some time after the Atos (eg Fiat Panda in 2004 ) achieved a better result. The child safety has not been tested, in the pedestrian protection of Atos reached by former criteria average two out of four stars.
