Nissan Cabstar

The Nissan Cabstar ( Europe model) was a light commercial vehicle of the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan.

Construction and model history

In contrast to most other vehicles in its class the Cabstar had a ladder frame body, as is common on larger trucks. Thus, the stability of the body is higher and there are more trailer loads ( up to 3.5 tons. ) Possible. The Cabstar was constructed in the cab-over design and the cab was sitting right on the engine. Since there was no hood in the classical sense, a high degree of maneuverability and longer cargo area with the same external length yielded.

Originally, however, the model came in 1968 as the Datsun Cabstar on the market, from 1976, a badge - engineering model of the Nissan Homer. Technically, the Nissan Caball C340 and used its sister model Nissan Clipper C340, offered the Cabstar / Caball a payload of 1-1.5 tons, the Caball or Clipper 2-4 tons payload. 1981 this meant that Nissan now all light truck model series henceforth replaced by only one model, the Nissan Atlas in 1976 after the technical Vereinheitlichnung its lower commercial vehicle range. Through the acquisition of Ebro in Spain, a local production of the Atlas of Europe, which began in 1982 was possible. To this end, Nissan also retained the well-known commercial vehicles Datsun Cabstar. Through the acquisition of Ebro also similar, but technically backward Ebro F-Series and the launching in higher payload Ebro L / M- series came into sales program. Ebro was more represented in southern Europe and the Japanese automobile manufacturers offered in the commercial vehicle sector, mostly only small truck up to 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight. Therefore, the Cabstar in Europe was only known payload offered at the beginning to 1 ton, while the Atlas to 4 tons payload was available and later differed in design between smaller and larger payload.

The decision to adjust the distribution of the Datsun Cabstar was marketed from 1984 as Nissan. Besides Europe, the name Cabstar is also used in parts of Asia, South America and until 2010 held in North America Atlas or only for the smaller version of the atlas. While the built by Nissan Motor Ibérica Cabstar addition to Europe also exported to the Middle East and as Samsung SV110 to South Korea, the Cabstar will be built in Mexico for South America and partly delivered to Asia. By 2010 also the atlas was produced with a higher payload than Cabstar for the North American market.

In addition to the Cabstar in the European commercial vehicle range was from 1990, based on the Ebro L / M Series Nissan L / M series and later as Nissan Eco -T and revised since 2000 as Nissan Atleon, on the relevant markets.

The merger of Renault and Nissan to Renault -Nissan Cabstar the was produced from 2007 through badge engineering as Maxity. 2014 replaced the Nissan Cabstar the NT300/400 in Europe and the Maxity.
