History

Mention was made in a bill of sale of the monks of the monastery Eldena near Greifswald, who bought the southern part of the peninsula, whose name means " Moenchgut " therefore is derived. The place was until 1326 part of the Principality of Rügen and then the Duchy of Pomerania.

During the Thirty Years' War, the town was completely destroyed. With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 Rügen was and thus the area of Thiessow a part of Swedish Pomerania. Along the Spit of Thiessow to Klein Zicker were loud Prussian Urmesstischblatt seven hills strung, northeast of Thiessow also a larger hill and directly north of the site a Landwehr. Of these fixtures is almost nothing left to see, because after 1815, given up all hills, and looped were leveled, the remains have disappeared through natural erosion. Remains are still to identify the Lotsenberg.

On September 11, 1806, Swedish King Gustav IV Adolf ordered the planning and subsequent construction of the naval port of Gustavia and an associated small town on Zicker. With the Napoleonic invasion of 1807, the project was interrupted, it was only a landing platform (now under water). The design and construction were not resumed after deduction of the French, who are said to have taken the plans. 1815 came Swedish Pomerania to Prussia, port construction was not pursued.

In 1854 the Prussian government in Thiessow built a Lotsenwache for Stralsund. In 1909, the pilot tower Thiessow was put into operation, however, he fell until 1977. Late 1990s, was rebuilt after the historical model. In April 2003, the newly built pilot tower was then opened to the public.
