Wieck auf dem Darß

Wieck Darß is a nationally recognized resort on the peninsula in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen Darß (Mecklenburg- Vorpommern). The place is managed by the Office Darß / fish country located in Born Darß.

Name

The name Wieck derives from a Low German word for bay (see - wik, compare Wyk auf Foehr and Kiel - Wik ).

Geography

Wieck is on the southern side of the peninsula Darß the Peninsula chain fish- darss on Bodstedter Bodden between Born and Prerow, about 5 km south of Prerow and about 35 km northeast of Rostock. In the East, the community is bordered by the Prerower current.

History

After centuries of belonging to the Duchy of Pomerania, the village belonged after the Thirty Years War Swedish Pomerania. In the years 1715-1720 Wieck was Darß until the end of the Great Northern War the Kingdom of Denmark.

The congregation was then until 1952 part of the district Pommern -Barth and belonged then to 1994 to the circle Ribnitz Damgarten in the district of Rostock. Since 1990 Wieck part of the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.

In Wieck Darß there was the concentration camp Darß- Wieck, a satellite camp of Neuengamme concentration camp near Hamburg. It was from January 1941 to the end of February 1941.

Events

Wieck is one of the three venues of the Darsser nature film festivals, at which each year will be awarded in the fall of the German Film Prize nature. Venue is the National Park Centre Darßer ark.

Transport links

To achieve Wieck is on the road 21, which passes north at the site. This leads from Ribnitz Damgarten along the Peninsula chain fish- darss up to Barth. From Barth from the place of the Meiningen Bridge and Prerow is achievable.
