Brügge

Bruges is a municipality on the river Eider in Rendsburg- Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. Brügger wood situated in the municipality.

Bruges is located about 11 km north of Neumünster and 15 km south of Kiel between the Federal highway 215 and Federal Highway 404

History

The town, named after the bridge over the river Eider, was settled during the medieval colonization before 1200 and 1215 first mentioned. 1238 there is a separate parish, and thus one of the oldest recorded church communities in Schleswig -Holstein.

With the construction of Johannis Church, a stone church, also the beginning of the 13th century began. It has been repeatedly modified and supplemented after the Thirty Years War by a wooden tower. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. In the church there is an altar canopy from the workshop of Hans Brüggemann, to which the then bailiff Hans Heinrich Kielman Kielmansegg 1672 donated the images. The original carvings are now in the State Museum.

Bruges was on the road from the Eider to Lübeck, so that the village life was marked by inns for travelers and markets.

From 1889 to 1970, Bruges seat of the Office Administration in the district of Plön, which was dissolved in the course of district reform.

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the CDU has been the municipal election 2008, seven seats and the SPD four.

Personalities

Heinrich Harries, poet of the original version of the song Hail to thee in victor's crown, was pastor from 1794 to 1802 in Bruges.

The place has its own boules before the church.

Since July 2009, the museum barn houses the geological exhibition "Gateway to the prehistoric times ." There, a mammoth and a cave bear skeleton and dinosaur reconstructions are shown among others.
