Dan Benishek

Daniel Joseph " Dan " Benishek ( born April 20, 1952 in Iron River, Iron County, Michigan ) is an American politician of the Republican Party. Since 2011 he represents the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Dan Benishek visited until 1970, the West Iron County High School. Then he studied until 1978 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor medicine and biology. In the following years he worked as a doctor.

Politically, Benishek joined the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 2010, he was appointed as the first candidate in the electoral district of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Bart Stupak on January 3, 2011. He had prevailed in the Primary of his party with an extremely narrow margin against State Senator Jason Allen, and then won the actual election to Democrat Gary McDowell. This election was in the national trend in favor of the Republican Party. His current legislative period runs until 3 January 2013. Benishek is a member of the Committee on Natural Resources and the Veterans Committee. He is regarded as rather conservative and, in essence, the positions of his party.

Dan Benishek has five children with his wife Judith and private lives in Iron County.
