Fisch

Fish is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Saar castle.

Geographical location

The place is in Saargau between the Saar and the Upper Moselle, near the Luxembourg border in the west. Surrounding municipalities are Mannebach, Saar castle, Merzkirchen and Wincheringen. The nearest big city is Trier, approximately 18 km to the northeast. Fish is located in the immediate vicinity of the historic Camino de Santiago Cologne -Prüm and Trier -Metz (France) and the present route Trier- Perl.

History

The place name comes from the Latin Aedificium fish ( homestead ) and refers to an earlier Roman manor. Around 1150, the village was first mentioned in documents as vischus.

In the Thirty Years' War located Hofgüter the Lords of Warsberg were destroyed here. Until the conquest by French troops in 1794 fish belonged to the Luxembourg rule Wincheringen.

On July 18, 1946 the congregation fish was attached together with a further 80 municipalities in the counties of Trier and the Saar castle in February 1946 separated from the rest of the French occupation zone Saar, which no longer was under the Allied Control Council at the time. On June 6, 1947 this territorial carve-out was taken back up to 21 communities again, so the place came to the 1946 newly formed state of Rhineland -Palatinate.
