Gevenich

Gevenich is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality elms.

Geography

Gevenich is located six kilometers west of the town of Cochem on an east to Ellerbach, a tributary of the Moselle, sloping ridge. The village comprises altitudes between 370 m above sea level. Sea level and 415 m above sea level. NN. Geographically, can the agricultural half municipality of Gevenicher plateau assign, in the west it includes the Gevenicher forest a larger forest area. There, the municipality reached on the Klausenberg 473 m above sea level. NN its highest point on the ground, its lowest with 205 m above sea level. History

The place is in a charter of Emperor Henry III. first mentioned in the year 1051. Since 1476 the Electorate of Trier was the sole ruler in Gevenich. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops Gevenich came as part of the district of Koblenz with Weiler Canton Lutzerath. 1815 it to the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Notjahre around the middle of the 19th century and the associated voluntary or enforced by the local migration of the poorer part of the inhabitants reduced its population by a third. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in Gevenich consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
