Nieblum

Nieblum (Danish: Niblum, Frisian: Njiblem ) is a municipality on the island of Foehr in the northwest of Schleswig -Holstein. It belongs to the district of North Friesland and is next to Nieblum nor of the place Goting, an independent municipality until 1970, with 106 inhabitants.

Geography

Nieblum located in the south of the island of Foehr, about halfway between the west and the east side of the island. To Nieblum heard the westernmost district Goting, until 1970 an independent municipality. In the far east at the airfield Wyk is the district Greveling. Until Goting also the beach that starts at Wyk South Beach runs. To Goting heard the several meters high Gotingkliff.

The water depths at Nieblum and Gotinger beach are relatively low, so that large parts of the fall Watts at low water dry.

History

Many of the old Frisian houses were once captains, their assets as sailors, often on Dutch whaling ships earned. This was a hard and dangerous work, no longer alive came from the many home. Witness thereof enter the grave stones in the cemetery around the " Friesendom " St. John's, built in the 13th century, the largest island of the three churches.

The southern part of Nieblum and Goting among the villages that were part of the existing until 1864 Harde Westerland Foehr, a royal enclave of Denmark.

The northern part of the village Nieblum other hand belonged to Easter Country Foehr, and thus to the Duchy of Schleswig.

In 1970 the until then independent municipality Goting was incorporated by Nieblum.

Policy

Of the nine seats in the municipal council have the Nieblum Wählergemeinschaft ( NWG ) since the local elections in 2013 seven seats and the CDU two.

Culture and sights

St. John's Church

The main attraction of the village is the defiant, highly visible church of St. John, with its monumental cemetery. In addition Nieblum has a beautiful townscape with thatched houses Fries, cobbled streets and many deciduous trees. Already in the 18th century was an extraordinarily beautiful place Nieblum mention, the village was chosen in 1979 as the most beautiful village of the Federal Republic of Germany. South of Nieblum lighthouse is Nieblum.

Schullandheim

Since the 1950s, the Ernst -Gymnasium Schlee used in Hamburg- Groß Flottbek a school camp in Nieblum. After conversion to a state trading school was handed the home high school Othmarschen in the same district of Hamburg.
