Pendleton County (West Virginia)

Pendleton County is a county located in the state of West Virginia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Franklin.

Geography

The County is located in the northeast of West Virginia, bordered by Virginia and has an area of 1808 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Grant County, Hardy County, Rockingham County ( Virginia), Augusta County ( Virginia), Highland County ( Virginia), Pocahontas County and Randolph County.

History

Pendleton County was on December 4, 1787 the Augusta County and Rockingham in Virginia and Hardy County. It was named after Edmund Pendleton, a politician and judge in Virginia, as well as participants in the American Revolutionary War.
