Porcari

Porcari is an Italian commune in the province of Lucca with 8699 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Pocari is located about nine kilometers east of the provincial capital of Lucca and 52 km west of the regional capital Florence, Lucca level in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone D, 1676 GG.

To the place includes the districts ( fractions) Rughi, Padule and La Fratina.

The neighboring municipalities are Altopascio, Capannori and Monte Carlo.

History

Porcari is mentioned in the first time in a document of the Lombard 780. The place was located on the Via Francigena and the Via Cassia. Since the 11th century Porcari had a castle. It was used until the 15th century, the defense of Lucca and was later demolished. Politically, Porcari Lucca and finally came up with this area of Italy. Since 1913 Porcari is an independent municipality, previously it was part of Capannori.

In business, especially in the paper industry is important.

  • Chiesa di San Giusto, Church of the 15th century. 1745 and 1884 was restored and changed.

Traffic

Porcari is located on the A11 motorway which connects Florence to Pisa and Lucca and on the railway line Florence - Viareggio.
