San Cono

San Cono is a city in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 2761 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

San Cono lies 84 km west of Catania in the border triangle of the provinces of Catania, Enna and Caltanissetta. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and animal husbandry.

San Cono is known for the prickly pears that grow here.

The neighboring municipalities are Mazzarino (CL ), Piazza Armerina (EN) and San Michele di Ganzaria.

History

The community was founded in 1785 by Trigona della Floresta.

Attractions

The parish church dates from the 18th century and was built of stones that were not plastered.
