Sellin

Sellin is a municipality on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen is managed by the Office Moenchgut -Granitz, located in the municipality Baabe.

Geography

Sellin is located east of a broad coastal high forest ( Granitz ) at the connection to the peninsula Moenchgut Southeast Rügen. Another special feature is that Sellin is located on the Baltic Sea and the Lake Sellin connected on the west side of the bay of Mönchgut Having the Bay of Greifswald. Sellin counts next to Binz and Göhren of the most important resorts on Rügen.

History

The place was Sellin 1295 beke first mentioned as Zelinische. The name derives from the Zelino for green and bek for Bach from. So he means Gruenbach.

Over the centuries, the village belonged to the family of Putbus.

The place was until 1326 part of the Principality of Rügen and then the Duchy of Pomerania. With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 Rügen was and thus the area of Sellin a part of Swedish Pomerania. Since 1880, the village quickly developed into a fashionable seaside resort. In 1898, the merchant Hermann Holtz was elected to the Prince's request to Putbus to community leaders Sellin.
