History

After the end of SG Nuremberg ( real name Game Community HC Nürnberg / Club at Marienberg Nurnberg ) - one since 1958/59 fellow in the 2nd Hockey League club - in 1980, the EHC founded 80 Nuremberg and began in the 1980/81 season the operation of gambling in the Bavarian skating association. After a season in the hockey Bayern League (1981 /82) and in the Regionalliga Süd 1982/83 the EHC reached the summit in the Oberliga Süd 1983/84. From the 1987/88 season the team played again in the 2nd Hockey League.

After taking in the German Ice Hockey League on 13 June 1994, landed the EHC 80 Nürnberg at the end of the main round in twelfth place and thus qualified for the play-offs. There is difference in the first round, the second round against the Düsseldorf EG chance. A season later, the first ice hockey team in Nürnberg Ice Tigers were renamed. You could play again, finishing in eleventh place just an average year. In the play-offs would retire from the German record champion Adler Mannheim 2:3 from Nuremberg view.

The ensuing season was far worse. After a disastrous last place in the preliminary round, the team also landed in the subsequent relegation round in ninth place. This meant having to compete in the play- downs, to avoid relegation from the DEL. In the first round the team met the Schwenningen Wild Wings, which were their favorites role in the Ice Tigers beat in the series 4-1. Consequently, you stepped on the EV Landshut. As an outsider to beat Landshut 3-0 and remained thus in the highest German hockey league.

In the season 1998/99 the leaders of the Ice Tigers were able to take well-known players under contract. Logically, one could confidently qualify as a first for the play- offs after the first round. In the quarter final they met the Augsburger Panther. In a hard fought series, the team prevailed 3-2 and drew for the first time the semi-finals. Was waiting with the Frankfurt Lions another championship candidate. Despite the relatively balanced starting position to beat the Lions 3-0 and thus stood in the final of the German Cup. In the final, was the opponent Adler Mannheim. The first game could be 2-1 after extra time to decide for themselves. Nevertheless, the Nuremberg lost just end up with 2:3 and were only runners-up.

Still, this was one of the most successful seasons in the history of the Nuremberg Ice Hockey Sports. The following six years were always follows the same pattern, no matter how successful was the round robin, the Ice Tigers eliminated from the season 2000/2001 six times in a row in the first round of the play - offs from. For the 2006/07 season the team was renamed after the sponsor Bionorica AG, Neumarkt in " Sinupret Ice Tigers ". After the re-qualify for the championship finals succeeded this year to break the series and finally penetrate into the finals. There they were subject to the favored Eagles Mannheim and were for the second time in club history runner-up.

With the runner- up expectations and for the season 2007/ 08, the first German Championship was longed for in the environment. At first it looked as if this venture also should finally succeed. Promising names such as Ahren Spylo or the defender Shane Peacock were transferred to Nuremberg. After the main round occupied the Ice Tigers earned first place and were now the first championship contender. Sovereign victories against the top teams from Cologne and Berlin were encouraging for subsequent play-offs. There, the team played in the quarter-final first against DEG Metro Stars, which was able to prevail only with great effort against the Hannover Scorpions in the pre- playoffs before.

Favorites you went to the show and was able to go in the first game of the series after only three and a half minutes by Ahren Spylo in the lead, then did, however, clearly against the Düsseldorf difficult. Nevertheless, it won the first game and had thus the psychological advantage over the MetroStars. In the second game, you obviously had problems. Despite a renewed early lead, they lost the game 1-2. The next three games were also all not be won. DEG Metro Stars attracted thus surprising the semi-finals, while the master of the regular season was eliminated in the history of DEL already in the quarterfinals for the first time. This the season for the Nuremberg Ice Tigers had already ended after the quarter-finals. First consequence was the resignation of longtime coach Benoit Laporte success.

The main round first, however, the Ice Tigers have the right to qualify for the newly formed Champions Hockey League. On January 8, 2008 announced the sole shareholder Günther Hertel that the Ice Tigers were no longer able to pay, if not new sponsors would be found within the near future. Three months later, on 10 March 2008, Günther Hertel announced at a press conference that the DEL in Nuremberg stay composed. The club escaped for the second time within a few years of insolvency. Günther Hertel, who leads the club as a hockey lover, wanted to prevent that he must compensate as in recent years occurring deficits from the private assets.

For the 2008/09 season, the Sinupret Ice Tigers parted from their original club, the EHC 80 Nürnberg. For years, the Company and the Union conducted a dispute, among other things, presented the original club excessive demands on the Ice Tigers. With the EC Höchstadter they found a new partner.

In September 2008, the Sinupret Ice Tigers took part in qualifying for the newly formed Champions Hockey League as a first preliminary round last year. Here they met the SC Bern of Switzerland and on the HC Kosice in Slovakia. The first game against the preliminary round first of the Swiss National League A took place on 13 September 2008 in the domestic arena Nuremberg instead. With Christian Laflamme the Nuremberg management could reactivate a former player exclusively for this tournament. The Ice Tigers lost the game after a tough battle with 1:4 before more than 5,000 spectators. After the SC Bern had also won the second game against HC Kosice, were able Nuremberg, no longer qualify for the especially financially lucrative tournament. The match against the Slovak representatives HC Kosice won the Ice Tigers 5-3.

In November 2008 it was announced that the limited liability company is insolvent. It was then 8000 IN 1963/ 08 used on 25 November 2008 under the reference number from the District Court of Nuremberg, a provisional liquidator for the limited liability company that created the insolvency report until 30 December 2008. On 26 March 2009, the previous jersey sponsor Bionorica pulled back so that insolvency proceedings within the next two weeks will be opened, no other investors should be found. The opening of insolvency proceedings would have had the loss of DEL license result. On 3 April 2009, it was reported that a group of investors took over the Ice Tigers GmbH to the jewelry manufacturer Thomas Sabo, so that the insolvency averted and the game operation is also secured in the season 2009/10.
