Ailly-sur-Somme

Ailly- sur -Somme is a northern French village with 3126 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens, is part of the Communauté de communes de l' Ouest d' Amiens, in the canton Picquigny.

Geography

The since the second half of the 19th century greatly increased community is located on the left ( southern ) bank of the Somme around 7.5 km north- west of Amiens and about 4.5 km southwest of Picquigny. Main road of the village is the Territory road D1235, south branches off the D97 after Bovelles from. Parallel to the D1235 runs along the Somme ponds accompanied by the railway line Paris - Boulogne -sur -Mer to the south, the municipality covers the Bois d' Ailly and extends to the edge of Ferrières.Hier are two isolated farmsteads ( Ferme d' Anjou and Ferme du Toulay ). The industrial and residential development extends parallel to the river.

History

1843 was opened on the banks of the Somme a flax spinning mill, the head of the Scotsman James Drummond Carmichael was. In 1906 there was a serious railway accident occurred.
