Camon (Somme)

Camon ( Picard: CANMon ) is a northern French village with 4517 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens, is part of the Communauté d' agglomà Amiens Métropole, in the canton Amiens -4 ( Est).

Geography

Camon is a suburb of Amiens, whose center is approximately four kilometers to the east. The municipality is located north of the Somme opposite the mouth of the Avre; The municipality is crossed by the Route nationale 25 which forms part of the highway ring of Amiens. The hamlet of Le Petit Camon located in the north of the municipal territory of the department road D929 (formerly Route nationale 29 ) to Albert. The hortillonnages of Amiens lie partly in the community.

History

Camon was under in the Middle Ages the cathedral chapter of Amiens. Spanish troops burned the place to the ground in 1636.

In the German - Prussian War of 1870 /71 two bridges were blown up.
