Saint-Gratien (Somme)

Saint- Gratien is a northern French village with 368 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the Canton of Villers -Bocage and is part of the Communauté de communes du Bocage et de l' Hallue.

Toponymy and geography

Named after a martyr of Amiens community lies at the intersection of the roads department D919 and D30, about nine kilometers east-southeast of Villers -Bocage.

History

In March 1918, the headquarters of the 3rd Division of the Australian troops moved under William Birdwood to Saint -Gratien.

Attractions

  • The made-up to 1789 again Schloss with corps de logis, horse stables, dovecote and chapel since 1954 as a monument historique registered ( Base Mérimée PA00116241 ).
  • The parish church of Saint- Gratien from 1864, which replaced a previous building, with a 1866 by Empress Eugénie donated crossroads.
