Clairy-Saulchoix

Clairy - Saulchoix ( Picard: Clairy - Cheuchoé ) is a northern French village with 388 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens, is part of the Communauté d' agglomà Amiens Métropole, in the canton Molliens- Dreuil.

Geography

Located in the districts Clairy and 3km from Clairy in the far west of the township Saulchoix composite, some still predominantly agricultural commuter town located approximately 12 km west-southwest of Amiens and 14 kilometers east-southeast of Molliens- Dreuil at the department road D182; by the municipality extend the Autoroute A29 and the road department D1029 ( former Route nationale 29).

History

When working on the Autoroute A29 numerous Gallo- Roman remains have come to light. The location on the road from Amiens to Rouen favored the emergence of a castle. Clairy named in 1152 as Clari. In the Middle Ages, the lords of Picquigny owned several estates in Clairy. Some of the monastery of Le Gard were founded in the 12th century. 1377 bought the chapter of Amiens part of Clairy. 1470 Castle Burgundian troops was burnt down. In 1595 it was conquered by Spanish troops. At the end of the 16th century Clairy came to the house de Créquy. As a result of political intrigues, the castle was destroyed in the 17th century.

The perched village was used by the German troops as an observation post during World War II.

  • The Saint-Nicolas Church from the 15th century with a square tower with octagonal top, with glass windows dating from the 19th century.
  • Erected 1864 Calvary Saint -Vast in the old cemetery.
  • Built in 1679 in Castle Saulchoy Saulchoix with park, chapel, orangery and two small pavilions, 2009 as a monument historique ( Base Mérimée PA80000066 ).
