Caix

Caix ( Picard: Tchai ) is a northern French village with 738 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Montdidier, in the canton of Rosières -en- Santerre and is part of the Communauté de communes du Santerre.

Geography

The church in the countryside Santerre is located around 4.5 km to the west of Rosières -en- Santerre at the intersection of department D28 and D41 roads a few miles south of Autoroute A29 and the railway line Amiens Laon.

History

In Caix remains of a Gallo- Roman villa were found. The village was first mentioned in 1131 as Caium. The dependent of Corbie rule came in 1646 at the Marquisat of Feuquières.

Caix was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914-1918.
