Helmut Kohl (referee)

Helmut Kohl ( * February 8, 1943; † September 26, 1991 ) was an Austrian football referee.

A native of Nussdorf am Haunsberg in the district of Salzburg-Umgebung carbon was mainly working as municipal official. He experienced his career highlight as a referee at the World Cup in Italy in 1990, where he led three games. After the preliminaries Uruguay - Spain and Brazil - Scotland, he was recognized for the quarter-final match between the team of Czechoslovakia and the German national team.

This carbon showed in the 70th minute the Czechoslovaks Ľubomír Moravčík with the score at 1-0 to Germany the red card. Moravčík was annoyed that Kohl had denied him after a duel with Pierre Littbarski a free-kick, and kicked an air hole. In this case, his apparently bad laced shoe had come loose from the foot and was flown up into the air. Carbon interpreted the action as a snub to his person and put the already admonished Czechoslovaks from the square.

Carbon died in 1991 at the age of 48 years to cancer. Four years later, allegations of corruption against him were loud. He is said to have received in 1989 after playing in the European Cup of Champions between Olympique Marseille and AEK Athens on behalf of the French, who had achieved a draw the next round equivalent of around 50,000 euros.
