List of world snooker champions
The list of World Champion in snooker lists all winners of the Snooker World Cup and the final opponent since the inaugural tournament in 1927.
The World Championships are aligned since 1968 by the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association ( WPBSA ), previously this was the Billiards Association and Control Council ( BA & CC) responsible. In 1952 there were disputes between the BA & CC and some players, after which the latter organized a second World Cup. This went under the name World Matchplay and stayed until 1957. During the following years no world championships were held 1964-1968 they were partially several times a year held on Challenge base. Since 1969, the World Championships will be held in the form of knock-out tournaments. The venues changed first ever, since 1977 is the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield fixed venue.
