Manchester Derby

With Manchester Derby city derbies between the English football club Manchester City and Manchester United are referred.

History

The first edition of the Manchester derby, it came on 12 November 1881. Received that time St. Mark's (West Gorton ) ( from 1894 Manchester City ) in the Hyde Road Newton Heath LYR Football Club (from 1902 Manchester United) to a friendly match. The match ended with a 3-0 victory from Newton Heath. The former local newspaper commented on the meeting as " a respectable game." It should take ten years until the first match in an official competition. In the first qualifying round of the FA Cup 1891/92 the Newton Heath FC defeated in a home game at the North Road city rivals Manchester City 5-1 gates.

With the rise of Newton Heath in the second-class Football League Second Division 1894/95 there were on 3 November 1894, the first game to league level. 14,000 spectators, the Citizens of the domestic Hyde Road had to bend the Heathens with 2:5 goals. City had to wait for a first success (2-1) against their rivals to 7 December 1895. In 1906 the ManUnited in 1903 ascended Citizens in the Football League First Division. With a 3-0 in front of 40,000 spectators the Sky Blues decided the first game of its own.

Especially hard it went to between the two clubs in the 1970s. In the duel of the Football League First Division 1970/71 they met each other at Old Trafford on December 12, 1970. After City scored the 0-1 (final score 1:4), it came to it after 23 minutes to a duel for the ball between George Best and Glyn Pardoe of United. Pardoe first played the ball and slipped in Best Pardoes legs. Here, the City player moved to a complicated, two-time fracture of the right leg and stood briefly before the amputation. He could play for Manchester City after two years.

In the first leg of the 1973/74 season the player Lou Macari and Mike Doyle saw the red card. They considered that to be excessive and refused to rely on the pitch. After a minute-long discussion referee Clive Thomas sent both teams into the cabins back. After a pause the referee brought back the two teams from the dressing rooms. Macari and Doyle were while guarded by policemen, so they did not return to the playing field.

Also the return leg on April 27, 1974 remained the fans in mind. ManUnited needed every point against relegation, two points behind as you had on the 20th place of the Southampton FC and two days later a game in hand against Stoke City before the game. Until the 84th minute, the game remained scoreless, then Francis Lee played the ball in the penalty area to Denis Law. Law promoted by the ball -heel into the goal for United. Denis Law was after eleven years and 171 goals changed in the summer of 1973 in 309 games for Manchester United to the Citizens. After the gate stormed fans the pitch at Old Trafford. Law was replaced after the goal with loud boos, denied no longer a game for City and ended after the football World Cup in 1974 his career. Manchester United had to make after 36 years of excellence the way to the second division.

In the 1980s, Manchester City had ( to 1989 1982 to 1985 and 1986 ) leave the First Division twice. In the first leg of the ascent 1989/90 season they beat ManUnited 5-1 gates. This was the highest since 1955 Derby defeat for the Red Devils. It was for the Skyblues but also the beginning of a series of 13 years without a win in the derby.

The mid-1990s became Manchester City in a sporting crisis. After relegation from the Premier League 1995/96 were found in 1998 in the Football League Second Division, the third division, again. After two consecutive ascents of the club reached the top division again and is continuously top notch since 2002. During the decline of the sport sky blue United won four league titles, two FA Cups and the 1999 UEFA Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup.

After 80 years Manchester City left the Maine Road to the City of Manchester Stadium. In the last Derby on 9 November 2002 34 649 spectators the Movers defeated City the city rivals 3-1 gates. The first derby of the Premier League season 2009/10 ended in a 4-3 win for United in front of their home crowd. After the initial 1-0 in the second minute through Wayne Rooney's Citizens resembled each of the leadership of the Red Devils. In the 90th minute striker Craig Bellamy scored the 3:3. In the sixth minute of injury time Michael Owen scored the game-winning 4:3. At the time designated United manager Alex Ferguson the game as "probably the best Manchester derby of all time".

The October 23, 2011 was a black day for Manchester United in the history of the derby. The first leg at Old Trafford the 2011/12 season ended with a clear 1:6 defeat of the home team. The 75 487 spectators saw the highest Derby and home defeat since February 12, 1955 ( 0:5 ). The Citizens were able for the first time since 1926 again achieve six goals against United in a game. Before a home crowd, the Red Devils last modified on September 10, 1930 suffered against Huddersfield Town six goals. At the end of season 2011/12 the Skyblues were able to celebrate their first league title since 1968.

The first derby of the Premier League 2012/13 was in the Etihad Stadium on the stage. The guests went two goals ( 16 and 29 min) by Wayne Rooney in the lead. After the break adjusted Yaya Touré ( 60 min) and Pablo Zabaleta out in the 86th minute. In the second minute of stoppage time Manchester United was still a free-kick. Robin van Persie joined the direct free kick, which deflected off a City player, the ball went untenable for goalkeeper Joe Hart to 2:3 in the stands. Rio Ferdinand after scoring a goal was hit by a two- pence coin on the head and slightly injured. For City, it was the first home defeat after 37 games.
