Mühlenkopfschanze

The Mühlenkopfschanze, also called Great Mühlenkopfschanze, is a standing in the district Stryck the north Hessian municipality of Willingen ski jump. It is a large hill in the category K 130 and the biggest large hill of earth. By the year 2000 existed at its present location two jumps, a normal hill and large hill K 89 K 120

Geographical location

The Mühlenkopfschanze is in the northeast foothills of the Rothaargebirge about 700 m southwest of the center of the village in Upland Willingener village Stryck to around 700 m above sea level. NHN. It is located on the wooded north-eastern slope of the mill head ( 825 m), which falls in the Valley of Itter. About 2 km to the north are the Orenbergschanzen on Orenberg.

History

1951-2000

The mill head hill was constructed in 1951. 1995, 1997 and takes place every year since 1999 held a World Cup ski jumping, which is great spectator interest; came in 2003, three days 90,000 visitors to the large hill.

Conversion

After the hill certificate had expired and not renewed by the FIS, a reconstruction was required. The ancient hills K 89 and K 120 were demolished after Easter 2000. The K -89 hill was not rebuilt. The conversion of the K -120 ski jump for large hill cost 10 million marks. The grandstand area was expanded to 38,000 seats. A total of around 3300 meters supply lines were laid among others for the artificial snow production. Furthermore, it was built a new building function. Architect of the renovation was Burkhard Pahl.

Since the renovation, the ski jumpers reach the hill with a cable car and a lift. The new Eagle's Nest, the " UFO", which serves as a warm-up room for the jumpers on the tower head and the new outlet was completed in November 2000. In February 2001, the first World Cup was held in the renovated facility.

Technical

The Mühlenkopfschanze is currently being prepared only once a year for the World Cup competition. The plant can be visited all year round outside the World Cup events. A summary of 20 people funicular railway leads from the outlet right up to the start tower. In the warm season the ski jumping stadium is also used as a venue for outdoor concerts.
