Bloudkova Velikanka

The Bloudkova Velikanka (German Bloudeks large hill ) is a ski jump in Planica.

History

1931, the hill architect Stanko Bloudek with the planning of a ski jump during the ski jumping complex Velikanka. From 23 to 26 March 1934, the inauguration of the ski jump took place. Birger Ruud jumped on 26 March 1934 with 92 meters of a new world record.

On March 15, 1936 Josef Bradl jumped on the Bloudkova Velikanka the first Springer over 100 meters. The last world record reached the Swiss Fritz Tschannen 1948 at the hill with 120 m. After 1969, the Schanze lost its importance. Ski flying competitions were then held at the Letalnica.

The Bloudkova Velikanka was used only as a large hill. On her World Cup were held regularly. The last World Cup was in 1998. She was not covered with mats.

Apart from the large hill, there is a normal hill ( Srednija ), which is still in operation. It is also not covered with mats. For the young there is still a K40, a K30 and a K8, all of which are covered with mats. However, they are out of service.

By 2013, all the hills were modernized for € 25 million and it emerged cross-country skiing, so again the World Cup to take place on the upper and the normal hill. In addition, Planica is applying for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017. On February 3, 2012, the modernized large hill was inaugurated with two jumping Continental Cup. First winner on the newly designed ski jump were the Austrians Stefan Kraft and the Pole Stefan Hula.
