Nordvorpommern

The district of North Western Pomerania was a county increased in the wake of the district reform in 2011 and was a few days later renamed district Vorpommern - Rügen.

Geography

The district of North Western Pomerania was in the north of the state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The county had a long coastline along the Baltic Sea in the north. Neighboring districts were the district of Rügen, in the east of Mecklenburg Western Pomerania, in the south of the district Demmin and Güstrow and in the west the district of Bad Doberan in the Northeast. The district-free city Stralsund extends from the Baltic Sea in the northeast in the district area.

Most important rivers in North Western Pomerania are the Recknitz that Cernosin and Barthe. The group also belongs the Peninsula chain fish- darss south of the Baltic Sea, which is an important tourist area.

History

The district of North Western Pomerania was formed in 1994 from the former GDR circles Stralsund, Pomerania and Ribnitz Damgarten. The historical border between Mecklenburg and Pomerania was disregarded by the district Ribnitz Damgarten in a small strip west of the Recknitz also included some former Mecklenburg communities.

As part of the district reform in 2011, the districts of North Western Pomerania, Rügen and Stralsund were parts of the new district Vorpommern - Rügen (Planning Name: Nordvorpommern ) with headquarters in Stralsund.

The district ( constituency number 57 ) is made of 165 Wahlkbezirken with 97 807 eligible voters. To select 46,411 charges were invalid and the 6.064 128 970 valid votes. This corresponds to a voter turnout of 47.5 % (all data from 2004).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 3 December 1997 by the Home Office and registered under No. 142 of the coat of arms role of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Blazon: " Split of blue and gold; front a turned-over to the left a golden griffin with knocked- red tongue and raised tail; behind a black grip with knocked- red tongue and surrounding rolled tail, silver, the two lower wing feathers of the flight. "

Flag

The flag of the district North Western Pomerania is uniformly striated blue and gold ( yellow) on the blue strip is a turned-over to the left grip with knocked- red tongue and surrounding rolled tail, on the golden ( yellow ) stripe is a black grip with knocked- red tongue and surrounding rolled tail, the two lower wing feathers of flight are silver (white). The length of the bunting is related to height as 3:2.

From the original twelve offices were eight offices after completion of the administrative reform on 1 January 2005. The cities Barth and Ribnitz Damgarten lost their Amtsfreiheit.
