Osterrönfeld

Osterronfeld is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. It lies on the south side of the North Sea-Baltic Canal, opposite the city of Rendsburg.

History

The place was first mentioned in 1330, through the establishment of a chapel on the outskirts of the city of Rendsburg with the relevant lands and houses.

The name ' Osterronfeld ' originated from the location of the village on the eastern shore of the so-called gutter or Ronne. This refers to the current Wehrau which thereby received its name, that in times of war, this small river to defend the city of Rendsburg could be dammed.

The original village was located in the core a little further south-east, it was completely destroyed by a fire in 1702. The district designation and the 1999 -developed building area " Ohldörp " ( Altdorf ) point out.

Economy and infrastructure

In December 2006 it was announced that the Hamburg-based wind turbine manufacturer REpower plans to build a production site in Osterronfeld. It was planned to produce directly on the Kiel Canal for both land as well as sea-based wind turbines.
