Sagard

Sagard is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). It is also the headquarters of the newly formed Office on 1 January 2005 North Rügen, which includes seven other municipalities.

Geography and transport

Sagard is located approximately 16 kilometers northeast of Bergen auf Rügen and seven kilometers west of Sassnitz on the Jasmund peninsula. The B96 runs past the village. Here the branches L 30 towards Old churches from on the Wittow peninsula. The municipality has a break point on the railway line Stralsund - Sassnitz, go with trains of RE Line 9 hourly to Sassnitz and in the opposite direction after Lietzow, Stralsund and in two- hour intervals to Rostock. Sagard borders the Jasmund National Park. In the southwest of the community borders the Great Jasmund.

  • Neddesitz In Neddesitz located since the 1990s, the Jasmar thermal baths, a great vacation and hotel complex of Jasmar Resort Rügen. A close Neddesitz situated chalk quarry was operated from the 19th century until 1954. The place name comes from the Slavic Nedasici and means people of Neda.

History

Sagard is first mentioned in 1250 as Zagard. The name of the municipality Sagard is Slavic and means as much as fencing or Burgort. This points to the formerly located here but leveled Slavic fortress from the 12th century.

Since the year 1750 there were already beginnings of a treatment center. In 1795 the pastor Heinrich Christoph von Willich opened with his brother, the country doctor Dr. Moritz von Willich, a fountain, swimming and entertainment institution. The bathing was to about 1830. Today the Historical park Brunnenaue reminiscent of the former idyllic spa garden with its promenades, fountains and bathhouses.

The place was until 1326 part of the Principality of Rügen and then the Duchy of Pomerania. With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 Rügen was and thus the area of Sagard a part of Swedish Pomerania. In 1815, Sagard came as part of Neuvorpommern the Prussian province of Pomerania.

Since 1818 Sagard belonged to the circle or district Rügen. Only in the years 1952 to 1955 it was the county mountains belong. The village belonged until 1990 to Rügen county in the district of Rostock and in the same year part of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The 1990 re- designated as the Rügen was 2011 in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen.

Since 1991, the historic center has been redeveloped as part of the urban development; the cityscape has improved.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was adopted in 1989 1988/Anfang end of the municipal council and registered under No. 11 of the coat of arms role of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Blazon: " Azure, on a reduced gold tip, in three (1:2) blue bow crowns, between two sides slightly curved golden ears of a silver fountain temple."

The coat of arms was designed by the Sagarderin Aenne Sahr.

Trivia

25 June 1975 crashed near the town of a MiG -21M to 17.28 clock after disorientation of pilots. The pilot, Lieutenant Konrad Ritter could still catapult, but died.
