Wiltingen

Wiltingen on the Saar is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Konz.

Location

Wiltingen located about nine kilometers southwest of Trier on the lower Saar and is connected by the National Road 149 to the higher local road network. The place is railway breakpoint on the Saarstrecke.

History

The name Wiltingen is first mentioned in a confirmed by the Archbishop of Trier, Poppo possession directory of Mergener monastery from the year 1030. Later, in the Middle Ages to the late 18th century, Wiltingen was shared with the neighboring community Kanzem own rule that in an enclave Electorate Trier Duchy of Luxembourg belonged. On July 20, 1946 Wiltingen was attached together with a further 80 municipalities in the counties of Trier and the Saar castle on February 16, 1946, separated from the rest of the French occupation zone Saarland.
