Longueau

Longueau ( Picard: Londjeu ) is a northern French village with 5775 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens, is part of the Communauté d' agglomà Amiens Métropole, in the canton Amiens -4 ( Est).

Geography

Longueau is a suburb of Amiens, whose center is located in a south-easterly direction approximately 4.5 km. The municipality at the mouth of Avre in the Somme is located on the department road D1029 ( former Route nationale 29) and has a railway junction, with extensive rail facilities and a large railroad depot importance attained ( railway line Paris -Lille and distance from Amiens to Laon ). In the east Longueau is limited by the Route nationale 25 which forms part of the highway ring of Amiens. The airport is located east of Amiens outside the community in the field of Glisy. The valleys of the Somme and the Avre are penetrated by numerous stagnant waters. The hortillonnages of Amiens lie partly in the community.

History

In 1277 a leper is called. 1636 Longueau was burned by Spanish troops. The community was reached in 1846 by the railroad. The Einsenahnkreuz exists since 1849. Since the commissioning of the LGV Nord Longueau is no longer served by TGV trains.

The municipality received from the award Croix de guerre 1914-1918.

Attractions

  • The destroyed in World War II and 1960, rebuilt church of Saint- Médard, a concrete building on an irregular floor plan.
  • The Town Hall.
  • The military cemetery with a white high cross.
  • Erected by Bernard Lafaille roundhouse of reinforced concrete in the railroad depot, in 2003 registered as a monument historique ( Base Mérimée PA80000036 ).
  • The Garden City Château Tour Animal architect Raoul Dautry, 2008 registered as a monument historique ( Base Mérimée PA80000061 ).
