Breitenfelde

Width field is a municipality in the district of Lauenburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Geography

Width of the field is in the middle of the Duchy of Lauenburg on the Elbe- Lübeck Canal.

History

The village was mentioned in Ratzeburg Domkapitelverzeichnis 1194 for the first time as a parish in documents. Width field was located on the historic Old Salt Road from Lüneburg to Lübeck. In the 15th century it belonged to one half of the city of Lübeck and the monastery Marie Wohlde. The Office width field created in 1889 by order of the Prussian Minister of the Interior, after taking possession of the Duchy of Lauenburg by Prussia.

From November 1944 to April 1945 a satellite camp of Neuengamme concentration camp was located in the width field. It included 20 prisoners who were forced to do hard labor for the SS Construction Office Mölln in the sawmill of Karl Gülzow.

The Romanesque in the origins width fields village church from the 12th century is an early Gothic church of the 13th century. The three-nave structure is built of field and bricks. At the three-bay nave, a choir box closes with three windows in the east end wall. The neo-Gothic bell tower dates from the year 1866. Likewise in the 19th century neo-Gothic vestry was added to the choir room.

Width field is connected via the federal highway 207 to the Federal Highway 24. The nearest train station is in Mölln on the railway line Lübeck- Lüneburg. Airports are in Lübeck (Regional Airport ) and Hamburg (remote airport).
