Schnakenbek

Schnakenbek is a municipality in the district of Lauenburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Geography

The community is separated by a 300 m wide strip of woods by the river Elbe. The town is intersected from west to east from the main road 5 and is therefore directly linked to the city of Hamburg.

History

Schnakenbek first mentioned as Snakenbeke 1230 in Ratzeburg tithe registers documented. It was at a ford of the Old Salt Road from Lüneburg to Lübeck, to whose protection the Ertheneburg was built, which Henry the Lion had burnt down in 1181. By 1945 the population of the community grew by leaps and bounds by large numbers of refugees and bombed Hamburg.

Clubs

In the town there are the games and sports association Schnakenbek from 1965, which offers many sports and leisure opportunities. Among other things, there is soccer for all ages and gender, as well as table tennis.

In addition Schnakenbek is jokingly referred to as " amusement ". Every year there is a big carnival parade held by the Schnakenbeker Carnival Society. The highlight is the proclamation of the prince and princess, which is driven in a carriage during the procession through the village. Further noteworthy are the universally known pomp sessions.

A half -day kindergarten to care for three -to six- year-old children is available in town.
