Labenz

Labenz is a municipality in the district of Lauenburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

History

The Slavic settlement Labenz ( from the Slavic language family with German admixture for " swan ", "fish -rich river " or " hard Waterfront " ) lies on the ancient trade route Lübeck- Hamburg and was first documented in 1390. The town center is the mill pond, a water connection between Wehrensteich and former Duvenseer lake. At the mill pond today are the buildings of the old water mill that was in operation until the 20th century.

Aided by the hilly location resulted in several windmills. The largest, a five -leaf, standing on the windmill paddock on the road to Lüchow. Douglas Adams ' translator Sven Böttcher used the place name Labenz as a nonsense word in " The deeper meaning of the Labenz ".

Since 2002 Labenz is also the headquarters of the association of "Lost Beauties ". This organization is committed to the preservation of old rose varieties. In April 2007, the first roses were planted in L'âge - bleu- Rose Park before entering the town, to be the largest collection of roses in northern Germany.
