Siebeneichen

Seven Oaks is a municipality in the district of Lauenburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

History

Already 1211 Eberhardt is called by Seueneken. The village itself was first mentioned in Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230 for the first time. At the time the first church was built, which was demolished in 1749 as dilapidated. The patron Johann Hartwig Ernst von Bernstorff, owner of Good Wotersen, left in 1753 to build a new church in which he was in 1772 also buried.

The construction of the Stecknitz Delvenau channel, the "wet salt road " between Lüneburg and Lübeck, which was completed in 1398, was Seven Oaks to the contact point for the Stecknitzfahrer. Even today, there is a reserved for this Schiffergilde stall in the Siebeneichener church.

Place name

The origin of the place name is not clearly documented, it could have its origin from the oak trees located on the old town square in front of the church, for there were earlier exactly seven oaks, as well as possible but also that the name comes from seven smallholdings.

Since the local elections on March 2, 2003 at the BvS ( Civil Association Seven Oaks ) received the majority of votes, is Karl -Heinz Weber mayor of Seven Oaks.

Ferry

There is a ferry service from Seven Oaks after Fitzen. Location is the former lock of Seven Oaks. This cable ferry is the only ferry across the Elbe- Lübeck Canal. It operates only in the months of April to October.

In the list of cultural monuments in Seven Oaks are registered in the list of monuments of Schleswig- Holstein cultural monuments.

Local attractions include the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Seven Oaks. The tower was built in 1753 at a major fire in 1909 destroyed. The foundation walls were increased in the reconstruction of around a meter. The 33 meter high tower dominates the village and is already clearly visible from a distance.
