Cochem-Zell

The district Cochem-Zell is a district in the northern center of the state of Rhineland- Palatinate. It is bordered to the west by the volcanic Eifel district, on the north by the district of Mayen -Koblenz, on the east by the Rhine - Hunsrück district and on the south by the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich.

Geography

The district Cochem-Zell is very sparsely populated. Centrally through the county territory flows the river Moselle. North of the river is the Eifel, south of the Hunsrück. The circle area is covered about halfway with forest. In the circle is the Kaiser- Wilhelm- Tunnel one of the longest railway tunnel in Germany between Cochem and Ediger -Eller, the only Glaubersalztherme of Germany in Bad Bert Rich and the steepest vineyard in Europe at Calmont near the local church Bremm. In the circle area on the Moselle grow excellent wines. Famous is the " Zeller Schwarze Katz " in the district of Zell.

History

Today the district of Cochem-Zell came in 1815 under Prussian administration, 1816 the two circles Cochem and Zell in the district of Coblenz. As part of Rhineland-Palatinate district reform (Third state law on administrative simplification in the land of Rhineland -Palatinate on 12 November 1968) was re- formed from the district of Cochem and a substantial part of the district of Zell June 7, 1969, the present-day district Cochem- Zell.

Meaning: The red cross represents the Electorate of Trier, the horn for the rule Braunshorn in Beilstein with large possessions in the county and the lion of the Counts Palatine of Aachen, who dominated the district area 866-1150.

Traffic

The northern district area is touched by the federal highway 48 (Trier -Koblenz ). Furthermore, pull through several federal and county roads, including the B 49, B 259, B 421 and B 416
