Rosières-en-Santerre

Rosières -en- Santerre ( Picard: Rousière -in- Santerre ) is a northern French village with 2955 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Montdidier, is the administrative center in Canton Rosières -en- Santerre and part of the Communauté de communes du Santerre.

Geography

Rosières -en- Santerre is located approximately 14 km northwest of Roye in the agrarian landscape Santerre at the junction of the D28 and D328 roads department and on the railway line Amiens Laon with a train station. Commercial areas extend from either side of the railway line and south of the community.

History

Findings show a Gallo - Roman and Merovingian settlement. The village was first mentioned in a document in a deed of the Abbey of Saint - Bertin from the year 883. In the 14th century the inhabitants of the town burned Rousseville settled in Rosières. In the 16th century basement ( Muches ) were dug. 1579 were granted three years markets and a weekly market Rosières. In 1746 the church was built. 1865 the railroad reached the town. In both world wars Rosières suffered destruction. On May 22, 1940 here fierce fighting took place.
