Savoyeux

Savoyeux is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Savoyeux situated at an altitude of 210 m above sea level, 16 km northeast of Gray and about 42 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, a slightly elevated position on a cut bank of the Saône opposite Seveux.

The area of ​​6.14 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Saône Valley. The eastern and southern border is always along the Saône, which draws a large, south -flung arc here and flows through an approximately one kilometer wide Alluvialniederung. The flood plain is on average 198 m. The river is expanded to the waterway, the river loop is cut off by the side channel of Savoyeux ( with a tunnel under the plateau foothills ). In the area of Savoyeux the river bed should not be changed in near-natural state.

From the river, the municipality's area on the Talniederung extends up to the height of Savoyeux. This forms the foothills of the west bordering the Saône plateau. It consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period. On the plateau, which lies at 220 m, dominates agricultural use. To the north- west of the municipality floor extends into the forest area of ​​the Grands Bois, in the 244 m, the highest elevation of Savoyeux is achieved.

To Savoyeux the settlement Port de Savoyeux (198 m) is in the Saône- lowland. Neighboring communities of Savoyeux are Vaite and Membrey in the north, Seveux in the east, Motey -sur -Saône and Mercey -sur -Saône in the south and Autet in the West.

History

The territory of Savoyeux was settled very early. The earliest evidence of human presence date back to the Paleolithic era. Towards the end of the Bronze Age there was a settlement here. Finds from a tumulus be dated to the period around 450 BC. The Gallic oppidum called Sabodium came under Roman rule in 58 BC. After that existed until the 5th century, thanks to the proximity to Segobodium ( Seveux ) a settlement.

Is mentioned in a document Savoyeux in time to the year 1000. Over time, the spelling of Sevaou about Savoyeul Savoyeulx and walked to the present name. In the Middle Ages Savoyeux belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Until 1120, when two separate parishes were established, and Savoyeux Seveux belonged together closely. Then Savoyeux was owned by the Lords of Autrey. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Savoyeux is a member of the 42 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Cyr -et -Sainte- Juliette was rebuilt in the 18th century, the side chapels of Sainte -Catherine (15th century) and Notre Dame (16th century) and the choir from the old building have been preserved. The church houses a remarkable altar (18th century) and the best stained glass. Three Calvaires date from the 19th century. The former castle with a hexagonal tower (15th century) is now privately owned and is not accessible to the public.

Population

With 226 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Savoyeux one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had declined significantly during the 20th century (1901 483 persons were still counted ), was recorded at the beginning of the 21st century, a further increase of the population.

Economy and infrastructure

Savoyeux has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. The village is situated away from the larger passage axes. The main access is from the secondary road that leads from Dampierre- sur-Salon by Seveux. Further road links exist with Membrey and Mercey -sur -Saône. Savoyeux has a station on the disused railway line from Vesoul to Gray.
