Bisel

Bisel is a commune of 575 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de Communes du Canton de Hirsingue. The inhabitants are called Biselois (it).

Geography

Bisel is the Sundgau, 14 kilometers south of Altkirch and 30 kilometers west of Basel. It is located near the border with Switzerland. In Bisel and neighboring communities are some small lakes. Through the municipal area of ​​the Largitzenbach flows on your way to Largue.

Neighboring communities of Bisel are Heimersdorf in the north, Ruederbach in the northeast, field creek in the east, in the southeast Mœrnach, Mooslargue in the south, Seppois -le-Haut in the west and Largitzen in the northwest.

History

In 1302 Bisol was mentioned as Bizol for the first time in a document. The place name is derived from the Middle High German word Bies ( rushes ). The village was divided in two by the setting of boundaries on the Largue in the Middle Ages. One half belonged until 1324 to the county Pfirt ( thereafter Habsburg), the other half was a fief of the Montjoie family of Hirsingue.

During the First World War, the church was destroyed.

The present church of Saint- Colomban was built in 1918 in the style of neoclassicism. An original church dedicated to Saint Columbanus in the same place is occupied since 1302 it had been enlarged in 1834 and was destroyed in the First World War.
