Roppentzwiller

Roppentzwiller ( German Roppenzweiler ) is a commune with 703 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the canton of Ferrette and the Local Government Association, Ill et Gersbach.

Geography

Roppentzwiller lies in the valley of the River Ill in Sundgau. Neighboring municipalities are Durmenach Muespach, Riespach, Vieux- Ferrette and Waldighofen.

History

The name is of Germanic origin Roppentzwiller and for the first time mentioned in a document in 1290 as Ropertzwilr in the "red book of the monastery grace valley ", which is located in the archives of the city of Basel. The name comes from " Hamlet " and the name " Robert", So means " Roberts Hamlet ". It is not known whether the Basel troops out of the surrounding villages and Durmenach Waldighofen also devastated Roppentzwiller after it became Ulrich II, Count of Ferrette (1227-1275), a vassal of the Bishop of Basel, who enfeoffed the villages then.

Economy and infrastructure

There is a kindergarten and a primary school in Roppentzwiller. After completing primary school, secondary school students visit in Ferrette.

Major lines of business in Roppentzwiller are agriculture and the breeding of domestic animals. There is also a mattress factory on site.

The municipality had a station on the railway line Altkirch - Ferrette of 1892. The passenger traffic was shut down in 1953. The last freight train reversed in 1968, then the distance from Hirsingue was shut down. The station building ⊙ 47.537132257.33511478 has been preserved and is now used as a residence.
