History

In 1883 a stone ax from the Neolithic was found in Steinsoultz.

The village was first mentioned in documents as Steinsulze 1302. Sultz is like the word " brawn" derived from the Old High German word sulza, " salt water ". Steinsoultz therefore means " mineral source from a rock ." What he meant was probably the sulphurous spring at the foot of the vineyard.

The village belonged until 1324 to the county Pfirt, then until 1648 the Habsburgs. In the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia Steinsoultz France was awarded.

1793 received Steinsoultz (as Steinsultz ) in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ) the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government. From 1871 to 1919 Steinsoultz belonged to Germany.
