Myron H. McCord

Myron Hawley McCord (* November 26, 1840 in Ceres, McKean County, Pennsylvania, † April 27, 1908 in Phoenix, Arizona ) was an American politician ( Republican).

Career

McCord attended Richburg Academy in New York, then moved to Wisconsin in 1854 and settled in Shawano County. In 1875 he moved to Merrill. During this time he worked as a publisher, forest workers and farmers. In addition, he published 1868-1883 a newspaper.

He decided in 1873 to pursue a political career and was elected to the Senate from Wisconsin, where he worked until 1874. In 1876, he acted as delegate Wisconsin at the Republican National Convention. He also belonged to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1881. After that, he was on 26 February 1884 to 24 June 1885 as a register ( the register for responsible officials ) in the U.S. Land Registry Office in Wausau operates.

McCord was elected as a Republican to the 51st Congress. There he worked on 4 March 1889 to 3 March 1891 at the House of Representatives. He failed in his 1890 re-election attempt in the 52nd Congress, but won the election in the 53rd Congress. Then he returned to Merrill and dealt there with farm work and the timber industry.

President William McKinley appointed him in 1897 to the Governor of Arizona Territory. However, he came back from that post in 1898 to set up a territorial regiment for the Spanish-American War. On 1 May 1902 he was appointed U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona, a position which he held until July 1, 1905. Later he worked for the Port of Nogales as a tax collector for the customs authority ( Collector of customs).

He died on 27 April 1908 and was buried in Merrill.

Marriages

McCord was married three times in his life. His first marriage in 1861 he went with Anna Mariah Murray one. He left but then divorced her in 1876. A year later, 1877, he married Sarah Etta Space then. With her he was married until her death in 1903. After her death he married again in 1904 and that Mary Emma Winslow.
