Vechigen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

The community Vechigen lies 10 km east of the Swiss capital Bern. It includes the villages: Boll / Sinneringen, Vechigen, Lindental, Dentenberg, Utzigen, Littewil, Radelfingen and Lauterbach. Neighboring municipalities are Bolligen, Hasle bei Burgdorf, Krauchtal, Muri bei Bern, Upper Castle BE, Stettlen, Walk rings and Worb.

The village Vechigen is slightly off the main corridor. The highest point of the municipality is the Schönbrunnenchnubel 956 m above sea level. M. The lowest point is the Worble 550 m above sea level. M.. Popular destinations include the Bantiger at Ferenberg, and the Mänziwilegg whether Utzigen, and the church in Vechigen.

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 29.5 %, BDP 17.3 %, SP 16.6 %, FDP 9.8 %, GPS 9.2 %, glp 5.9 %, EPP 4.1 %, CVP 2.0 %, EDU 1.6 %, pirates 1.0 %.

Vechigen has two stations on the meter gauge railway RBS. The station Boll- Utzigen is located in the center of Boll, who Vechigen station below the church. The line S7 leads to Worb and to Bern. In addition, there is a bus service to the higher places in the municipality. Bernmobil also runs a night bus ( Moon Liner) by Boll- Utzigen station.

Personalities

  • Samuel Johann Pauli ( 1766 Vechigen - 1821 London ), a Swiss inventor, invented inter alia, the first steerable man-made airship in the world. In 1802 he had the first draft of its "flying fish " ( later called in England "Flying Dolphin" ) drawn, the Graf Zeppelin was modeled hundred years later.
