Fell, Rhineland-Palatinate

Fell ( Moselle Franconian: Faähl ) is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Schweich on the Roman wine road. Fell is a wine-growing village known for its tradition of slate mining.

Geography

By fur flows Feller Bach, which opens at Riol into the Moselle. In 100 meters leads to the municipality Feller viaduct over the Feller Bach.

The municipality since June 7, 1969 belongs to the district Fastrau. To the village of Fell includes the residential places Fellerhof, In Scho Lens head and Noßertal; to the hamlet Fastrau the living space Fast Rough mill.

History

The name of fur (from Latin vallis, the valley ) points to ( late) Roman origin. The early settlement of the valley by Celts and Romans occupied excavations in the 1980s at the castle head. In the Middle Ages the town over the centuries from the Abbey of St. Maximin in Trier was led to the possession of which was fur. The Maximiner also built a castle, of which only the castle gate, parts of the wall and a castle cellars are preserved. Historically, the districts Oberfell and low fur can be distinguished. Attractions

In the vicinity of the fur in operation since 1997 Fell Exhibition Slate Mine is located. It consists of two overlapping interconnected historic mines.

In fur the Catholic Church of St. Martin and in the district Fastrau the Catholic branch church of St. Stephen, is worth seeing.

Sports

In recent years, Fell was one of the places through which the rally led Germany. 2012, the seventh 20 -hour cycling marathon was held in fur. Fur was from 1971 to 2011 starting point of the Trier mountain race that counted for the European Hill Climb Championship since 1991.
